Frequently asked
We accept:
popular novels,
classics,
children’s books with intact pages,
young adult series,
cookbooks with photos,
history and biography books,
current reference materials, and
special items like books about Alabama or by local authors.
You can also learn more about our used book donation process on our blog.
We do not accept:
damaged books (water-damaged, missing pages, broken spines),
heavily highlighted or written-in books,
anything with mold or mildew,
musty-smelling books,
pest-damaged items,
excessively dusty or dirty books,
outdated encyclopedias,
computer manuals over 3 years old,
textbooks over 5 years old, or
outdated medical and legal information.

Please pack 1-2 boxes or bags in sturdy containers that aren’t too heavy. For larger donations, contact us in advance.
If you only have 1-2 boxes or bags to donate, you can bring your donations to the Chelsea Library or to a book sale event.
If you have a larger book donation, please contact us so we can coordinate a donation time.
Feel free to email us photos of your items for guidance before donating.
Quality book donations directly fund library programs, technology upgrades, special events, and educational initiatives serving the community.
